We are a locally focused newspaper serving a close-knit community of approximately 6,500–7,500 residents. Our publication highlights the people, stories, and events that matter most to our readers, including a strong passion for local sports at the youth, high school, and community levels. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Sports Writer to cover local athletics and bring engaging, accurate, and timely sports coverage to our readers. This is a fully remote position, ideal for a self-motivated writer who understands the importance of community journalism and can capture the spirit of small-town sports.

Key Responsibilities

• Cover local sports teams, including high school, youth leagues, and community events
• Write game recaps, feature stories, athlete profiles, and seasonal previews
• Conduct interviews with coaches, athletes, and community members
• Meet regular deadlines for weekly or bi-weekly publication
• Submit clean, well-edited copy with minimal supervision
• Coordinate with editors remotely via email or shared platforms

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a sports writer (newspaper, digital publication, or similar)
• Strong writing, grammar, and storytelling skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines consistently
• Familiarity with AP style (preferred)
• Experience covering high school or small-town sports is a strong plus
• Reliable internet access and communication skills
