PARALEGAL | Human Trafficking Division
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is seeking a motivated Paralegal for the Human Trafficking Division within the Criminal Bureau. The role involves providing paralegal and administrative support, including legal research, drafting subpoenas, and assisting with investigations and prosecutions related to human trafficking.
Responsibilities
- Research policy and legal matters pertinent to HTD initiatives
- Draft administrative, grand jury, and trial subpoenas, as well as witness summons, discovery, and preservation orders at the direction of prosecutors
- Track referrals, investigations, and prosecutions for HTD
- Support grand jury work by preparing documents and analyzing returns to help develop investigations
- Support litigation matters by tracking and documenting discovery
- Support AAGs in trial work and creating exhibits as well as coordinating translations
- Coordinate and schedule business and law enforcement witnesses
- Analyze digital evidence in furtherance of investigations and prosecutions
- Assist in the coordination of trainings and assembly of training materials
- Organize seized monies, as well as track seizure and forfeiture processes
- Assist the CAT Task Force Coordinator with duties pertaining to the task force as needed
- Any additional duties necessary to effectuate the above responsibilities
- Perform administrative duties consistent with the needs of the Division
Skills
- Bachelor's or associate degree or an equivalent combination of related education and/or experience is required
- Demonstrated interest in, and understanding of, the sensitive nature of working on investigations that involve allegations of sexual assault, exploitation, and other forms of violence
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills, and ability to prioritize tasks
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (including word processing, database, and spreadsheet software programs), and ability to learn case management software
- Excellent work ethic and sound judgment in decision making
- A valid Massachusetts driver's license is required, as travel is necessary to various courts and offices throughout the Commonwealth
