About the Role

The Credit Data Analyst role at Affirm is a critical position within the Credit team, which collaborates closely with Machine Learning, Product, Engineering, Capital Markets, and Commercial teams. The primary focus of this role is to utilize extensive data analytics to develop, test, and optimize credit strategies that balance growth with risk management. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping credit underwriting models, supporting new product launches, and enhancing existing credit processes. This position requires a highly analytical mindset, strong cross-functional partnership skills, and a passion for deriving actionable insights from complex data sets. The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to Affirm’s mission of transforming consumer finance by leveraging data-driven decision-making and innovative technology solutions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a data analyst or data scientist, preferably in consumer credit risk management
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python; experience with Spark is a plus
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques is advantageous
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to dissect complex data and generate actionable insights
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical findings to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and influence decision-making
  • A degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Curiosity, creativity, and a passion for continuous learning and innovation
  • Demonstrated grit, resilience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving

Responsibilities

  • Leverage experimentation and advanced data analytics to derive insights and optimize credit underwriting processes
  • Analyze complex datasets to develop and refine credit strategies that balance risk and growth
  • Determine and optimize purchasing power settings to ensure healthy user engagement and portfolio performance
  • Support the launch of new products by designing and implementing effective credit strategies and models
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning and Engineering teams to develop and enhance credit risk capabilities
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings in underwriting and risk management to improve profitability
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including Product, Capital Markets, and Merchant Pricing, to ensure cohesive strategy execution
  • Communicate insights and recommendations clearly to stakeholders at all levels
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in credit analytics and risk management
