BI Data Engineer (Remote WA, OR, ID & CA)

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

More than 135 years ago, we started with core values that never go out of style: listen, learn and help businesses and individuals reach their goals. These core values shape our culture, and we were recently Great Place to Work Certified because of our outstanding workplace culture and employee experience. As well, our financial strength and stability are key reasons Forbes named us one of the Best 100 Banks in America for the ninth consecutive year. With more than $16 billion in assets and 135 branch locations throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California, we understand our role in the economy and take that responsibility seriously. In addition to offering a source of capital to personal banking clients and businesses of all sizes, we place a high importance on employee volunteerism and donate millions of dollars each year to community organizations. As a BI Data Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in turning data into meaningful insights that help drive smart, confident business decisions. You’ll work across teams to build, maintain, and continuously improve our enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence environment. This role blends technical expertise with collaboration, curiosity, and a real-world impact on how our teams use data every day. In this role you'll

  • Collect, organize, and analyze data from multiple internal and external sources to answer business questions and improve key business metrics.
  • Build and maintain ETL processes, data pipelines, and integrations that ensure reliable and timely data availability.
  • Partner closely with end users, BI Data Analysts, and software development teams to translate business needs into effective data solutions.
  • Support the integration of BI and analytics platforms with enterprise applications and systems.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize BI tools, data loads, and production processes to ensure performance and data accuracy.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance standards are met, including maintaining metadata repositories.
  • Provide production support, communicate issues and resolutions to customers, and assist with ad hoc reporting needs.
  • Develop training materials and deliver end-user training on BI tools and reports.
  • Contribute to research and evaluation of new BI technologies and partner with Architects to recommend improvements and new solutions.
  • Create efficient, automated, and well-documented processes that comply with security, regulatory, and policy requirements.

What we're looking for

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Law, Computer Science, or a related field (Required).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • You have 4+ years of related technical experience, including 3+ years working with large-scale datasets, databases, ETL, and analytics tools (Required).
  • Experience in banking, financial services, or insurance environments is helpful (Preferred).

What helps you shine

  • You bring strong expertise in database systems, data warehousing, data modeling, and data integration techniques.
  • You’re comfortable working with Microsoft SQL Server tools, including SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, Power BI, Fabric, and Synapse pipelines.
  • You enjoy solving complex problems using SQL, DAX, MDX, C#, Python, and dimensional modeling techniques.
  • You have a sharp analytical mindset and enjoy turning raw data into reliable, actionable insights.
  • You communicate clearly and collaborate easily, whether you’re working independently or as part of a cross-functional team.
